What this means is that the amount of energy that flows through a system is a function of the structure of said system. The structure of a creek is different from that of a river - it is that structure that allows for more water to flow through a river. This principle holds everywhere in life: the amount of money that flows through you, how much ATP energy your body can produce, how much love you share with others.
